Did You Make Your Bed Today?

We have made it through the first month of 2021. With the onset of the New Year comes new year resolutions which are often made up of goals to personally and professionally change your life in a positive way. With the craziness of 2020 behind us, 2021 has proven to have its challenges for many. The once attainable resolutions may prove harder to achieve then in previous years. Recently, I was texting with a friend about how my day was going. I had responded with a simple “We are doing ok. The kids are happy, but the house is a disaster…..I didn’t even make my bed today”. She responded with a “LOL” and over the course of the next week, we joked back and forth on how our days were going based on whether our bed was made or not. Then ironically an article popped up into my inbox that same week discussing reasons we should all make our bed in the morning. Here were a few of my key takeaways.

1) Start small. With the onset of the pandemic, many spas and salons have had to temporarily close and refocus their business strategy. A lot of pressure has been placed on business owners and estheticians to survive the closures and these slower times. Setting small goals often helps to lower anxiety and the feelings of being overwhelmed. Set small goals and work towards them one day at a time. Start by making your bed.

2) Celebrate success. You did it. Whether it is making your bed, remembering to brush your teeth, or booking a week full of waxing clients, you did it and you should celebrate it. Speaking positively to yourself is not something we do often, but when we do, things change. You become more confident, you smile more and your overall demeanor becomes brighter. Others also take on this positive vibe. Your clients will feel your confidence and leave their wax feeling better about themselves. Remember to be kind to yourself. There is only one you.

3) Share the love. Making your bed has been proven to lower stress and improve mood. Share it! Tell your clients, tell your friends, tell your family. We could all use some tips these days on staying positive.

4) Enjoy the ride. Your bed is made. You feel positive. You are ready to start your day. We are all in this together. Starting your day in a more positive way will ensure you are ready for whatever the day has in store for you. Your clients will love your positivity which will keep them coming back and telling others.

So why should you make your bed? It’s simple. This small task can start your day in a positive way by lowering stress, building confidence, and providing a sense of accomplishment. Try it for a week and see how it goes. If nothing comes of it, at least you will have a nice and cozy bed to get into at night.
