How to Treat Pigmentation

Q. What is pigmentation?

A. Pigmentation refers to the darkening of the skin and can happen after waxing. It can also build up over time. Pregnant women are susceptible to pigmentation due to the fluctuation of hormones during pregnancy. Common areas for pigmentation to occur is around the tops of the legs, the vulva, underarms, the face and neck. There are a few other factors that affect it happening such as skin sensitivity, products being used as well as the removal of the wax.

Q. What can be done to help prevent it?

A. Although all pigmentation can not be prevented, there are a few steps that can be taken in order to reduce it occurring. Below are a list of tips that can help to prevent it during waxing services.

1. Use LYCON Pre-Waxing Oil- This is a big saviour for many things with waxing. The Pre-Waxing Oil stops wax from sticking to the skin which means that there should be less skin pealing. The Pre-Waxing Oil was first designed to be used under Hot/Hard wax, which LYCON has been making since 1980. A very small amount of the oil should be applied before each hot wax application and if any repeat hot wax applications are required on the same area, then the Pre-Waxing Oil needs to be reapplied, before any Hot wax application.

2. Recommend at home products that contain lightening ingredients such as the PINKINI Lightening Serum. The Serum is also safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Q. Is there anything that can be done to help reverse the affects of shaving (which can cause an increase in pigmentation)?

A. It is common to see a lot of pigmentation in areas that have been shaved frequently such as underarms and bikini area. Shaving scrapes a layer of skin off, which is why the skin gets darker in those areas even more than it might naturally be. It is very important to use LYCON Hot Wax to wax those areas and to use the Pre-Waxing Oil. With regular waxing and protection with the Pre-Waxing Oil, the skin should lighten and become less pigmented. Overtime with less shaving, the pigmentation should lighten naturally.

Tips for helping pigmented skin:

Exfoliation: In addition, the other products that can help reduce pigmentation are exfoliating products. LYCON has a few different types of exfoliating products:
• LYCON Sugar Scrubs – 6 flavours

• LYCON X-it Mitt

ALWAYS RECOMMEND THE USE OF SUNSCREEN!

Sunscreen is important to protect the skin from the skin and becoming darker.
